Monday mornings should be for…..sleeping.
Cozican
Cozican returns from a 125 day break to make his seasonal debut at Southwell this afternoon.
He tackles 7 furlongs for the first time and wears a first time hood. Faye Mcmanoman takes the ride.
Best of luck to Cozican’s owners, Martin Webb Racing!
Isla Kai
It’s a hard life being on your holidays! He hasn’t even started the season and he’s already napping, we know how he feels!
Totes Emosh
Totes Emosh heads to Wolverhampton this evening to contest the 5f handicap at 8:00. Prime time racing!
Best of luck to her owners, The Wolf Pack, who have runners at both Meydan and Wolverhampton today. I know where I’d rather be!
4:20 Meydan
Stable jockey, Rowan Scott, is out in Dubai where he is looking forward to rekindling his partnership with Acklam Express later in the season.
He rides Marie’s Diamond in a Group 2 contest for Roger Fell, on the first day of the Dubai World Cup Carnival this afternoon.
Best of luck Rowan!
13/01/22
Nigel and Kim at the bottom of Langton Wold Gallops, with our Ardad x Talent Spotter filly.
On Board with Kuroshio
We had another manic Monday with some very fresh two-year-olds around the track!
It is starting to get very busy at Woodlands Stables as all of our older horses are now starting to come back into work for the season ahead. Only 75 days till the start of turf season!
Mitcham Fair
This is Mitcham Fair. She retired from racing last year as unfortunately, she wasn’t a racehorse at heart (finishing last more often than not!).
She is now being brought back into work for her new owner, by Lara, who used to ride her at home.
Mitcham Fair is looking forward to doing dressage and we wish her the best of luck in her new career.
A Very Dandy Man
Here is one of our two-year-olds warming up before a canter around the track. What a mover this Dandy Man gelding is!
Isla Kai
The beast that is Isla Kai enjoying his time in the field, before he comes back into work for an exciting season ahead.
Rodeo Star
26 years since he left our yard and he’s still flying the flag!
Cold mornings.
The seasonal weather is back. With -4 temperatures overnight it is fair to say everyone is wrapped up well today. It does make for great photos and videos though!
You can’t beat watching the horses on Langton Wold Gallops on a crisp, winters morning.
The holidays are over!
Dandy Dinmont (right) and Another Investment (left) enjoying the last of their holiday sunshine yesterday. Fortunately, they were wrapped up inside last night as temperatures hit -4 degrees! With snow forecast later on, I don’t think I’d want to go back outside.
Rodeo Star
There was an article in the Racing Post the other day documenting ‘Dead Solid Perfect’ to be the oldest ex-racehorse in North America, turning 39 at the turn of the year.
The Guinness World Records claims the oldest thoroughbred, Tango Duke (foaled 1935), owned by Carmen J. Koper of Barongarook, Australia, made it to the age of 42!
I wrote a post the other day about our former racehorse, Rodeo Star, turning 36 on January 1st. We want to know if he is the oldest ex-racehorse in the UK and if not, who is?
Attholblair Boy
Attholblair Boy looking great this morning just before loading up to go to Newcastle.
First Runners
Our first runners of 2022 head to Newcastle today.
Bakr contests the 5:30 after running a much more promising race last time out over course and distance. Watch the last furlong of her race below, she ran a quicker final furlong than all her rivals. (near-side yellow and purple).
Attholblair Boy returns from a short break to make his 2022 debut in the 6:30, also over 6 furlongs. Faye Mcmanoman takes the 3lb off both horses.
Best of luck to all connections.
Fast Company x Saphira Silver
We found these pictures of our Fast Company filly as a foal. They were taken at The Irish National Stud where she was born and the bottom picture was taken from Tattersalls when we bought her last year.
The change in her coat is quite remarkable and we’re still not sure what colour she is going to end up!
She’s already showing plenty at home and we can’t wait to get her to the track.
Happy Birthday
Happy birthday to all our racehorses, past and present.
We wish the happiest of birthdays to one of our former winners, Rodeo Star, who turns 36 today!
What a job Debbie has done looking after him, he still looks a picture.
Rodeo Star won the Chester Cup for us back in 1993, carrying 7st 13lbs. He won on 15 other occasions for the yard on the flat, over hurdles, fences and at 11 different tracks!
Happy Birthday Rodeo Star. Watch his Chester Cup triumph below.
Happy New Year
Happy New Year from all of us here at Woodlands Stables. This is York winner, Another Investment, who had arrived back at the yard and is soon going to start training for his 2022 campaign.
2021
The last day of the year so no better time to look back on the year we’ve had.
A record-breaking year for us on the flat with 41 winners.
Our jockeys have also had record years: Rowan Scott has ridden 39 winners this year, whilst Faye Mcmanoman has ridden 25.
We wish a happy New Year to all our owners, staff and everyone who has supported us in 2021!
May 2022 bring us many more winners. Enjoy our winners of 2021!
