The snow has fallen all around us but unfortunately there is still work to be done!
A beautiful start to the morning at Woodlands Stables, a lot easier to appreciate now sat behind the fire!
What an achievement!
We are proud to say our very own Woodlands Charm has contributed to this tally, with her two wins at Ripon and Catterick this year.

A massive thank you to everyone who made this achievement possible and congratulations to all our winning owners! 🏆#TeamMPR pic.twitter.com/mthicS9QVr
We’ve had our first frosts of the winter here in Langton. We can’t say starting the day at 1 degree is enjoyable but that looks feeble compared to the weekend forecast.
It’s safe to say we are all missing the nice summer rides up the gallops.
We were busy at the final major yearling sale of the year yesterday at Tattersalls.
We made one purchase and this was a lovely looking son Showcasing, boasting a pedigree full of black-type performers.
The colt is the first foal out of the unraced Bated Breath mare, Impede. She is from a Juddmonte family and a half-sister to no less than 5 Group performers.
Although there was only evening racing at Chelmsford to keep us occupied on this cold Monday evening, we had reason to be entertained.
Above, trained by Stuart Williams, won the feature Class 2 Handicap, off a mark of 94. Above is the half-brother to our very own Wootton Bassett yearling filly, out of the Acclamation mare, Broken Applause.
‘Whoopie’ is certainly a looker!
What a beautiful photo taken by Phil Andrews at the top of Langton Wold Gallops.
This is what makes it all worthwhile.
Ginger Jam is now roughed off and enjoying his holiday! ‘Jam’ is a 9-time winner and has won twice for us this season, both times at Bath! Lucky Lucky Lucky is the horse seen in the background, also enjoying a short break.
This a yearling colt by Temple Stakes winner, Pearl Secret. He is out of the two-time winning mare, Kashtan, making him a half-brother to our very own two-time scorer Maybe Even Never.
We hope this colt is just as lucky for his owners. You can definitely see the resemblance between the two of them, with Maybe Even Never pictured here as a yearling, only just broken.
There is no flat racing in Britain this week so there is no better time to look back at the winners we’ve had this year.
41 winners have been trained out of Woodlands Stables this year; a record number on flat. Take a look at them all below!
Today is World Horse Appreciation Day! Here are some of our equine stars receiving some love! Pictured are: Trust Bertie, Totes Emosh, Ginger Jam, Keepherlit, Woodlands Charm, Firmdecisions and Singe Anglais.
It’s that time of year again, the clippers are out! Here is Nigel clipping our Cotai Glory two-year-old, Totes Emosh. Luckily this isn’t the finish article, I hope this haircut doesn’t embarrass her too much, I think we’d all be worried if Nigel walked towards us with a pair of clippers!
This is our Sioux Nation colt being long-reined by Jim. Jim does a great job of lunging and long-reining all our horses before they are ridden; it is an integral part in the breaking process. All of our yearlings have a very good grounding before they are ridden, being handled, lunged and long-reined plenty.
This Sioux Nation colt has just been down the road with Jim and is heading back to his stable. He is taking everything in his stride and the next step is to get on his back! Any volunteers?
Cozican is back after a short break. He is now being readied for a winter all-weather campaign. Here he is with Isla, hacking around the track at home.
These are our two newest recruits, bought at the Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale last week in Ireland. They are by two first season sires in US Navy Flag (Left) and Havana Grey (Right). They are both nice looking filly’s and the US Navy Flag filly is still FOR SALE. To see more information click here.
The Havana Grey filly is a half-sister to two Group performers and looks uncannily like our very own Golden Duke!
Bakr has been declared to make her handicap debut at Kempton on Friday. She showed plenty on her first start for us at Redcar and we were pleased with that run.
She won well on her last visit to Kempton and we hope she makes the trip south worthwhile.
We’re flat out here at Woodlands Stables preparing the Class of 2022! All of our yearlings are at different stages so we are busy long-reining, lunging, backing and riding them away.
This weekend Doncaster Racecourse is staging the Clock Tower Cup.
We are excited to announce that our very own Lara Barstow will be riding in the race this year. She will be riding stable stalwart, Firmdecisions, who Lara has looked after for the past two years. The trip is 7 furlongs; a distance that ‘Firm’ has won over 9 times.
The race is run in aid of Racing Welfare, who do a great job in looking after our staff. They are a great cause and we would be lost without them. Any donations below would be greatly appreciated,

We wish Lara and Firmdecions the best of luck and most importantly, a safe return!
‘An exceptionally fast horse with a great will to win’.
🗣️ "He’s a really good-looking son of the highly successful sire Kodiac, whose sons are proving to be sire sons as well."
